Poland Allocates $500 Million for Purchasing Excess Grain

The Polish government intends to purchase 5 million tons of excess grain from farmers; this purchase will cost them a minimum of 2 billion zlotys, or almost $500 million. Reporters were informed of this by Stefan Krajewski, a deputy director of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture. The lawmaker is quoted by the PAP agency as saying, "We intend to allocate about 2 billion zlotys to purchase surplus grain from the market." He continued by saying that the Ministry of Finance is being involved in the process of allocating the required cash. Payments to farmers are expected to start coming in before the last day of May.
